Bus driver shortages affecting local routes, student commutes in New Braunfels, Comal ISDs

A nationwide bus driver shortage has left families and school districts across the country scrambling to adjust to the extra challenges posed by a lack of drivers to run the bus routes.

HopSkipDrive, a ridesharing company that investigates transportation solutions, explored the bus driver shortage in its 2023 State of School Transportation survey. Of school district respondents, 92% reported constrained transportation operations due to the bus driver shortage this year. Approximately 30% of respondents identified these constraints as severe, while 62% identified them as somewhat constrained.
